Thermogenic therapy

Production of an artificial fever as a therapy was used since 1919 to treat resistant infectious diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and Sydenham's Chorea, however with the onset of antibiotic usage these uses are no longer employed, and the therapy is not covered by insurance carriers or Medicare.  Thermogenic therapy has been used as a supplement based weight loss technique however randomized trials that included a multi-ingredient supplement containing caffeine, green tea extract, l-carnitine, evodiamine and other ingredients that purportedly enhance thermogenesis, found no weight loss or fat loss compared with placebo (J Sports Sci Med. 2017 Dec 1;16(4):459-467).  Such thermogenic weight loss supplements are associated with life threatening encephalopathies (Neurocrit Care. 2017 Oct 18.).
